Stremio works on iOS via Stremio Web through Safari. Install it as a PWA on your Home Screen for quick access, then set up an external video player and start streaming.

Your Options on iOS

Stremio Service is not available for iOS, which means torrent streaming and in-browser video conversion won't work. All other streams open fine through an external video player.

Stremio Web via Safari (PWA)

Open web.strem.io in Safari and add it to your Home Screen. Works without Stremio Service — streams open in VLC or Outplayer.

Sideload the IPA file

Official IPA files are available on stremio.com for sideloading via AltStore or similar. Gives you full app experience but requires setup.

This guide covers the PWA method, which works for most people without any technical setup.

1 Install Stremio as a PWA

You must use Safari for this step. Chrome and other browsers on iOS don't support PWA installation.
1

Open Safari on your iPhone or iPad

Make sure you're using the Safari browser specifically — no other browser supports PWA installation on iOS.

2

Navigate to web.strem.io

Type web.strem.io in the Safari address bar and open the site.

3

Tap the Share button

Tap the Share icon at the bottom of the screen (the square with an arrow pointing up).

4

Tap "Add to Home Screen"

Scroll through the share sheet options and tap "Add to Home Screen". Confirm the name and tap "Add".

5

Open Stremio from your Home Screen

The Stremio icon will now appear on your Home Screen. Always open it from there for the best experience.

Open Stremio Web

2 Dismiss the Server Warning

When you open Stremio from your Home Screen, you'll see a "Streaming server is not available" warning. This is expected — Stremio Service doesn't run on iOS.

Just tap "Don't show again" to dismiss it permanently. The app will continue to work normally for all non-torrent streams.

3 Sign In to Your Account

Tap the profile/login button in Stremio Web and sign in with your Stremio account. If you don't have one, create a free account at stremio.com.

Once signed in, your watchlist, history, and installed addons will sync automatically from your other Stremio devices.

4 Set Up an External Video Player

Because the in-browser player has limitations on iOS, you need to configure Stremio to open streams in an external player app.

1

Install VLC or Outplayer

Download either VLC for Mobile or Outplayer from the App Store. Both are free.

2

Open Stremio Settings

Inside Stremio Web, tap the gear icon to open Settings.

3

Find "Play in external player"

Scroll down in Settings until you find the "Play in external player" option.

4

Select VLC or Outplayer

Change the value from "Disabled" to either VLC or Outplayer. Make sure the app you choose is installed.

After this, when you tap Play on a movie or show, Stremio will hand off the stream to your chosen player automatically.

! Known Limitations on iOS

  • Torrent streams won't work — Stremio Service (which handles torrents) can't run on iOS. Non-torrent streams work fine.
  • In-browser playback is limited — Use an external player for the best experience.
  • Background playback — Works through the external player app, not inside Safari.
  • Advanced use: You can connect Stremio Web to a Stremio Service running on a desktop computer on the same network. This unlocks torrent streaming on iOS.
